How extensible IS second life, that shoes can have (or require) their own code?Shouldn't they just be a model + textures, which the second life code automatically applies to the feet marker-vectors on a character models body?

They do have shoes made as simply as that, but they are crappy.What people want in Second Life are shoes and clothes that they can buy off the peg as in real life. You see beautiful shoes in a shop you want them, you click to buy them, attach to your avatar and then maybe they don't fit. Plus people want animations with shoes maybe.
