Anyone who says anything other than 2001: A Space Odyssey is frankly a waste of resources and should be humanely culled.

It's got the best soundtrack to any film, ever.

And it feels so much more the wonder of space than films like Star Wars ever could, much as I do love Star Wars. There's something about 2001 that speaks very clearly to the once and future cosmologist in me.

although,I was also rather fond of the sequel. Maybe It was just my copy, but i was a little annoyed he didn't actually say "My god, It's Full of Stars!" in the first one.

No!
I hate this film with a passion. My ex made me watch it and i was ready to kill him by the end of it. It's got about 10 min of dialogue and about 3hrs of space scenes with classical music over the top. Arrrgh. DULL. There are much better sci-fi films out, Dune for one, which is ace.
2010 is about a million times better.

Dialogue would just get in the way.

Agree they should have said 'Oh my God, it's full of starrs', but that's just a minor point.
