I may have to disagree quite strongly......they both started out really well - I even forgave Event Horizon for its laughably dodgy science - but then they just got silly.
I think the problem is that no matter how much effort they put into the monsters (ok, Sam Neill turned inside-out in EH), they just look daft. This is the same reason I like the first Alien film but none of the follow-ups - it's actually more exciting when you don't see the monster.
For balance, I should now contradict myself and admit that I do love old-school Dr Who...
