Was it 16 years of changes, after da vinchi was "done" or was he touching it up for 16 years untill it was done? I suppose the distinction isnt as cut and dry as with a film getting a release.

Well yeah, the concept of a commercial release is a bit weird with relation to any art, I guess. :P
But as a rule people say that he 'wasn't happy' with it, kinda implying that it was a perfectly respectable picture of some melancholic bint, which he just wouldn't leave be. :P
