A group of ladsin my University halls used to do this sort of thing all the time.
They once glued a couple of pound coins to the road outside the block in plain view of every room, then all of them --probably 30 students-- would wait patiently, peering over their window sills.
When the hapless victim bent down and began scrabbling at the shiny bait, they would cheer "HOORAY!" in loud, happy unison.
Good times.
