That's very creepy..Then again, if the Bertolli ads are to be believed, a Mediterranian diet gives a good chance of a long life.. so there's a chance that he will have lived to a ripe old age (if he didn't get blown to bits in the trenches.)
There may be relatives who could be tracked down, (assuming they weren't the ones who threw the letters in the bin!)
