Drimble asks: When was it last brought home to you just how old you're getting? We last asked this in 2004, and you're eight years older now. Eight. Years.

I've never been to a proper rock festival in my life. Too loud, too mediocre, horrible value for money, etc. Classical festivals are where it's at: you can still get drunk in a field, but your tent won't get trampled on, your stuff won't get stolen and you'll be able to talk to your friends without having to lip-read.

The one near Leeds. Ecstasy, vodka and fireworks made for an interesting evening.

My last one as an audience member was near Southampton, and I performed as part of a regatta/festival a couple of years after that.

It's just that it has a very, very short half-life; it's usually a matter of seconds between "Oooh, that looks potentially fun!" and "That looks like the sixth pit of hell".

My last 'proper' festival was a week after my 23rd birthday, the two I've been to since then were within easy reach of home. My reaction to the Reading lineup this year was "Ahhh, so many bands I want to see, it's gotta be done!", swiftly followed by "Nnnnnope, I stopped going to that for a reason". Great fun the first couple of times, I'd regret it by now if I hadn't done it, but it's fair to say I'm finished with the whole thing now.
