This is a question Getting Old

Drimble asks: When was it last brought home to you just how old you're getting? We last asked this in 2004, and you're eight years older now. Eight. Years.

meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....
I'm 43 and have had tinnitus for years. I blame it firstly on seeing New Order live here in a concrete box. Started wearing earplugs by 19 but not often enough. Surprisingly there is little actual hearing loss but can struggle to hear a conversation in a noisy environment.
Tips from the audiologists to mitigate your tinnitus: minimise caffeine and alcohol consumption, keep stress levels down and exercise frequently so you will sleep better (ensure you get your heart rate up and get a sweat on).
Hope you can get off the bad stuff and get some decent sleep. Maybe check out some of the masking apps for your phone also.

yeah i've heard the thing about caffiene. may well have to give that up and see if it makes much difference. might be harder to lay off the booze though!

Get your hearing checked too
sometimes tinnitus can be made worse because of straining to hear and hearing-aids can sometimes help.
You will also then be able to ask for noise generators to try from your local Audiology dept.
Have a look on here www.actiononhearingloss.org.uk/your-hearing/tinnitus.aspx
Loads of info that might help.
Don't just put up with it!

thanks for that
for have a look! oddly enough my hearing is still very good; I'll often be able hear things that others can't etc. strange really.

Pardon?
Seriously, I'm 43 and have found it hard to tune in to conversations where there is a degree of background noise, like in the pub. Although that might be because no-one is actually talking to me...

The tinnitus has started over the last six months too. I really feel for all the kids walking around in headphones nowadays - they'll all be deaf by the time they're thirty.
