Turning into your parents
Unable to hold back the genetic tide, I find myself gardening in my carpet slippers, asking for a knife and fork in McDonalds and agreeing with the Daily Telegraph. I'm beyond help - what about you?
Thanks to b3th for the suggestion

I've just come back from Homebase.
I spent longer than I'd like to think debating inwardly the relative merits of different spades.

Reminds me of when I got my flat
And being rather proud of having my first toolbox.

I keep gathering bits of equipment.
I refuse to get a proper toolbox, though - that'd be capitulation. So all the drills and nails and things like that are strewn between the study and the cellar. The painting stuff is in the bathroom. The saw's in the spare bedroom. Christ only knows where I keep the spirit level.

Ahhhh....
Spirit levels! The toolbox that came with the flat didn't have one, so I bought one, as we wanted to put up a shelf. Browsing spirit levels in Wilkinsons made me feel very much like my dad....

Even worse....
I'm genuinely interested in what kind of spade you purchased? Is it good and sharp? The girlie lightweight ones are about as much use as tits on a bull... I like a good heavy one myself.

On the basis that I only have a 7x1' bed...
I reckoned cheap and chearful'd be enough. All I want to do is bring out a bit of the soil so that the wall can be repointed, and then put it back again. I really don't need to do much: a trowel'll do for the actual planting and management.
Oh, god. I've just had my first conversation about garden tools.

I had considered the merits of adding a LOLracist punchline to the post... but then thought better of it.
Thankfully.
