I hadthe same thing. I was only a passenger in the car, and I did have my coxyx whacked - which bloody hurt to be fair, was told to go to the docs (by pretty much everyone - mum, dad, gf etc...), went there, he sent me for physio - which did bugger all to stop the pain. Then about a year after, I got a cheque in the post for 1700 quid.
I hadn't even thought of claiming for compo. The thought hadn't even entered my head.

It's cunts like us (Yes, I've had the exact same experience) that are causing the car insurance industry......... to screw over newly qualified drivers, and make them pay 5 times the value of their car just for insurance.
