I used to put them point upthen I heard the story of the Scottish woman who was killed by falling onto the knives. So I tried the other way round, and it made no difference to the clean, so point down now since it reduces a small risk of injury and a very, very small risk of killing a scottish woman.
Also, I have one of those cutlery baskets in the dishwasher that you can move about, it now sits at the back of the dishwasher to minimise this very small risk of injury/death.
