After reading through a lot of posts so farit has made me realise how completely opposite my parents are. From a young age, I have been treated as quite independent. As I never really did anything wrong, I never got any grief. I always said where I was going when I went out and came in at a reasonable time. There were never any formal rules and so I never felt the need to rebel or push any boundaries. I never took advantage of their liberal attitudes but they were always there when I needed them and left me alone when I didn't.
Consequently they were more like great friends rather than parents and I was the envy of my friends who got plenty of grief off their parents. It's a method I've employed with my kids. I don't set strict ground rules and they don't take the piss.

bloody liarI call shenanegins ! I'd say you were beaten and molested daily and have just blanked it all out..... just as you are currently blanking out the brutality you afflict on your own kids...
I'd say they shit themselves when they hear the stairs creaking late at night...
