I used to make my own ale.We drank it and got a buzz without getting sick. At first I used Australian malt concentrate(Coopers)and no matter how careful I was it always had a nasty burnt sugar aftertaste.
Then I found I could produce a fairly decent pale and dark ales with New Zealand malt.
