I suspect the reason
that he looks like a guy who works out, rather than a cartoon character, is precisely that he doesn't take steroids.

Linda McCartney
in late late 1990s, there was a professional cycling racing team sponsored by the Linda McCartney veggie food brand. They demonstrated their healthy living by being a vegetarian team and racing only eating vegetarian products.

According to a book, once the food company which owned the brand took over close management they didn't want to sponsor the team any longer. After deals with Jaguar and Jacob's Creek came to nothing, the team went bust, and there was an acrimonious meeting in London where all these vegetarian riders were told there was no more job (or pay) for them. The meeting concluded by adjourning to a nearby burger bar where by all accounts they caught up for months of enforced meaty abstinence...
