Two thoughts:
1: Do you really need to put the seat up? Is your aim THAT bad?
2: I think some people put the lid down after doing their business to stop any droplets of piss and shit tainted water splashing out when they flush. Probably a bit paranoid, but I can see why people might do it if they're the ones that have to clean the toilet.
