i had a very similar experience, outside tesco on a christmas eve. I had just finished work and was popping in with the wife to grab last minute goodies. Cue old git and 3 freinds standing right infront of the trollies. I say "excuse me".
wait 10 secs.
nothing happens
I say "escuse me" again.
a lot louder.
old git looks at me like i have just fallen out of his colostomy bag and says "i heard you the first time".
didn't look so smug when i said to him in front of his chums "well you should have fucking moved then, shouldn't you. You auld twat."
at this point, i left him to choke on his dribble.
