"Oh but animals like me" is the response I always get as they scoop him up into their arms.
This is usually followed by
"But animals normally like me"
as I'm prying him off their arm.

I've got a cat like that
but with me she's a real softie. Flips over on her back lets me tickle her tummy... purring like a distant thunderstorm then they try and end up look like they have been juggling barbed wire

I believe it's a territorial thing.
