calgacusAs has been mention many, many, many times so far, Scottish bank notes are NOT legal tender, and English shops/cabbies are under no obligation to accept them whatsoever. They are accepted because the Bank of Scotland is not likely to disappear overnight and make the note worthless. The only 'legal' tender in England, Scotland and Wales are Bank of England notes.
