Otherwise you will soon discover that you have become a tyrant and everyone is miserable. Sometimes you have to let a kid be a kid, instead of insisting a 2 year old behave like an adult. Sometimes you have to recognize that when a kid gets a new toy, they don't want to be parted from it....but that only lasts a few days. So is it really *worth* it to break their little spirit, or would you rather compromise for wearing a helmet at the table?
Yes, I induldged my children when they were small, but they also had firm rules to abide by. Now they are well-behaved enough to be able to spend time in any public place without bothering other people.
