Nothing wrong with gritty coffee, per se.I just don't like it, that's all.
The instruction manual says that the filters can be rinsed (gently) and reused, but the filters cost roughly a penny each so I don't bother.

We rinse the filterEach one lasts about two weeks of 4 or so uses a day.
