I'm now in a Mountain Rescue team.
and would offer this piece of advice.

If you are ever so injured/ incapacitated as to need to be stretchered off and there is no helicopter available, there is a good chance that you will be offered an opiate based painkiller (morphine). You will also be offered an anti emetic to reduce nasuea.

Please, please, please take both. There is nothing more distressing for casualty and stretcher team than someone strapped onto a stretcher having to be turned upside down to be sick, because no matter how "hard" you are being stretchered down a hillside when you can only see sky (or my scary beard) when you are dosed up to the eyeballs is a nauseating as the worst seacrossing ever.

One day I would like to ride on the zero g "vomit comet" aeroplane just to see if it is worse. But I doubt it.

Well then,
Also a thanks goes to you as well. I've been in the mountains long enough to see you guys at work and know it's a good thing.

Yup.
Although mainly when I'm in the mountains it's for fishing, but it's good to know the teams are there "just in case"

'someone strapped onto a stretcher having to be turned upside down to be sick'
Hahahah, how very... pragmatic.

I concur
Especially as I've undergone your colleagues' kind attentions. This is me on Jubilee Sunday www.pdmro.org.uk/gallery/p6020034.jpg I fell off Three Pebble at Froggatt, and the smack and the no-vom certainly took a lot of edge off.

MR guys everywhere
I've been to the mountains an awful lot, and I think I know what I'm doing. I've never needed to call the Mountain Rescue but I'm bloody glad you lot are there just in case.

So in case I do ever need you, and even if I don't, thanks for doing what you do.

Damn right.
I've been tangentially involved in cave rescuing, and my gratitude to the folks who volunteer themselves to MR knows no bounds.

Thanks for the votes of thanks.
and to be honest I feel lucky that I am able to do it.

Anyway its just an excuse to wander about on the hill at night and have a beer with some lads (and lasses) with a darker sense of humour than me.
