This is a question More Fire!

It's nearly ten YEARS since we last asked a question about fires.

Channel your inner neanderthal and tell us about fires, mostly to shut up that smug fucker that's made an oh-so-clever "wheel".

Wasp Nest Disposal
Back in the 1970s childhood.... Wasp nest was located in the garden. Actually in the ground. Mum came up with a clever idea for disposing of it. This involved a can of petrol tipped down into the nest.

Well, they say you learn a lot from your parents. I learnt that day how not to dispose of a wasp nest as I watched her throw a match onto the nest and then saw the flames chase back towards her.

She was fine, few less eyebrows, looking a little pale.

The main lesson being - if you are going to tip petrol onto something to dispose of it, make sure you let someone else light it...

Oddly
petrol kills the little bastards without needing to light it! I've done it a couple of times. Just pour a little bit of it in to the top of the nest and walk away. They'd all have been dead within a day and yer ma would still have had her eyebrows. I think it interferes with their breathing apparatus or something.

Used to use carbon tetrachloride and
go back next day to collect the grubs for fishing.

Where's the fun in that?
I assume you are just suffocating them with the fumes. Sounds like a slow death to me. Whereas petrol plus matches is clearly far more animal friendly. As long as you learn to run.

I'm now wondering about your method. Those wasps that do get out of the nest while the petrol is there. Have you tried to see if they are flammable? Sounds like some testing is required. Flaming wasps flying around the garden. DIY fire flies
