Mums
Mrs Liveinabin tells us: My mum told me to eat my vegetables, or I wouldn't get any pudding. I'm 32 and told her I could do what I like. I ate my vegetables. Tell us about mums.

my mum bruised easily
so she used a garden cane to hit me. it was only me though, not my sister or brother
I had forgotten all about it till my children attended the local C of E school and I went to their Easter Service in the church at the end of the road. The vicar distributed the palm fronds the children had been waving among the parents and the one he handed to me was green crepe paper leaves taped to a garden cane and I could not sing for crying my eyes out.
I tried to talk to her about her "spare the rod and spoil the child" philosophy just after I turned 50 and she dismissed it with, "Oh you deserved it, you were so bad."
I wasn't.

I suggest therapy.
Really - you sound like you could do with some help with that. :(

you deserved it
no you didn't deserve it. Kids misbehave. I know I did. No child deserves to be beaten.
My mum broke the handle off the rolling pin hitting me with it...
I have sworn, if I ever have kids, never to hit them.
*hugs*
*edited because I didn't quite know what to say at first, just knew I wanted to rely.

Oh man that's harsh.
Michael Ellis is right, try and talk this one through with a professional. Whatever it was, it wasn't your fault.
*manly hug*

I don't hit my daughter
When she was a toddler, a tap on the hand was sometimes administered when she reached for things she should not have, but I say tap and mean it, but since she was able to understand 'no' that is all that has ever been required. She's 14 now, and she lives in fear of doing wrong and being made to sit down and explain what she did and why- much more effective.
A slap on the arse for shock tactics is one thing, but whacking with a stick so much that years later you flinch is another. No need to wallop the life out of kids, none at all.
Have this therapeutic click and perhaps, as was said above, have a chat with one. Takes a stronger person to go to therapy than to shy away from it.
