This is a question I'm glad nobody saw me

Have you ever done something, realised how stupid or embarrassing it was and then looked about to see if anyone watching? Did you get away with it?

Howls of derisive laughter, Bruce
On the way to work, my car starts to splutter and lurch, and eventually grinds to a halt in a cloud of steam and expensive-sounding clunking noises.

Nothing too embarrassing there, surely? Well, it was a Reliant Robin, which some people seem to think is not the coolest car on the road, even when it's actually moving.

And it was right outside a secondary school.

Kids can be so cruel, can't they?

Reliant Robins are ACE.
I want a black one with flame decals over the rear wheels, and furry dice hanging from the rearview mirror. I shall call it The Death Machine and pootle along comfortably enjoying the upset derision of BMW drivers and the like.

I agree - highly underated and great fun
Sure, they're only 85hp, but they only weigh 450kg (apologies for the mixed units) -- which means about 190hp / tonne. Apparently that's the same as a Lotus Elise...

It was great fun leaving people standing at the lights - the shock on their faces was priceless! Unfortunately, they soon top out, so you get passed, and driving like a loon eventually blows them up (see OP!), but it's worth it.

I once found a fanzine
written by the member of some sort of railway appreciation cult. A great read, particularly the article detailing the plastic pigs that the other member of said cult had painted in various train liveries. That is all.

Wow
A Robin-driving trainspotter. Can the universe handle such a level of social rejection?

Chances are they're a /talk member now...

i love robin reliants
learned to drive in one and have broken down embarrasingly more times than i care to remember.

However all that misery got cancelled out by the joy of overtaking a rolls royce (that was beeping and laughing at me earlier) on a really steep hill with Motorhead's "The Ace of Spades" blasting out of an open window :D

I was watching one of those police car chase thigns a while back
and they had a guy who used a Reliant as a getaway car. He managed to outrun 2 helicopters and 7 squad cars due to several things
a)as it was really really narrow, he could drive up the middle of some roads with traffic on both sides. Squad cars had to wait for people to pull over. He also went down really narrow alleys and stairways that the police couldn't fit down.
b) As it only had 3 wheels, they couldn't use the stinger on it owing to the factit would flip over and burst into flames.
Best car chase. Ever.
