It's Not What It Looks Like!

What have you done that, in retrospect, you'd really rather nobody had seen, mostly as things just get worse the more you try to explain it?

I had a similar experience when I was trying to ask a young girl if she could heat up my Cornish pasty. "Can you heat it up?", "Can you make this hot?", etc, etc. Couldn't make myself understood. Turns out they didn't have a microwave.
