Wooo!
Did you manage the last 400 words or have you just gone 'fuck it' and summed up short?
(, Sun 16 Jan 2011, 21:24, 1 reply, 15 years ago)
I did write around 400 more
which brings the total, ex. bibliography, to 4138, just under 5% over the word limit, whihc I think is quite nice. It's a nice looking number.

Haven't read it through. Do. Not. Care.

4000 words is quite brutal for an essay
I think the maximum we ever had, bar dissertation, was 2500. I was always short...
(, Sun 16 Jan 2011, 21:28, Reply)
I was short on the other one, 3603 in the end
I think they penalise you if you're less than 10% under or more than 10% over. Right close to the bone there.

The thing is, lectures start tomorrow, so I can't even relax a little :(

That's a bit harsh!
just think, it's only 4 weeks til your reading week, right?
(, Sun 16 Jan 2011, 21:33, Reply)
We've had christmas to do the essays in, though.
Charmander finished hers on Friday, so had the weekend to wind down. But I did have two essays, after all.

Yeah, I'm exited- going to Belfast for a wedding at the very beginning, going to Oxford at the very end. This whole week would be easier if I had a day off this term, though :(

You've still got weekends!
And surely you aren't in lectures 9-5 Monday - Friday?
(, Sun 16 Jan 2011, 21:48, Reply)
You have an excellent point. Thursday;s basically free as I'm in 4-6 and then will probably go the gym afterwards.
Tomorrow's lecture is 2-4, but I'm probably going to get to the library at 12, print it out, hand it in, then go and look at a few of the poems in the meantime.

*rolls eyes*
Ah, to be a student again!

It's killing time until I have to be a proper member of society.

You're in your second year, right?

(, Sun 16 Jan 2011, 22:00, Reply)
Yurp, of a 3 year course.
Doing probably one of the least practical degrees ever. It does mean I can read statues and shit. And bits of a third of the Rosetta stone. If I squint.

Life skills there love.
do you know what you want to do afterwards?
(, Sun 16 Jan 2011, 22:03, Reply)
No bloody idea.
Going to apply for an internship at the BM, see if curatorship is the life for me. Other than that I'd imagine I'd like to do further study. No matter how much I've bitched about it, I've loved the topic of the essay, as it centres around my favourite stuff.
(, Sun 16 Jan 2011, 22:05, Reply)
Working at the BM
sounds freaking awesome. Or you could become one of those cardigan wearing academic types that time team consult, which would probably be equally awesome. What kind of further study is open to you? (I know nothing about PhDs/MA type stuff for humanities)
(, Sun 16 Jan 2011, 22:14, Reply)
See if I could skip
all the pesky bits of academia like having to know stuff, I would love that
(, Sun 16 Jan 2011, 22:17, Reply)
Considering possibly a Theology if I want to outside my department
I could do Classics, or possibly Byzantine Studies. The Eastern Roman Empire is fucking amazing, it's my favourite. That and the Early Church. They're very interlinked.

I certainly would love to do an MA, but I probably have to get a first or a high 2:1 overall to be in with any real chance. Last year I got a mid 2:1, but that was in some dark times, so maybe if I buck my ideas up I can do better this year.
Kind of looking foward to the dissertation. Provided I work hard on it.
