Aha!Now I've remembered two of my favourite colloquialisms - clarts/clarty = mud/muddy and "glakey" which is an adjective for retarded, vacant mouth-breathers. You can also noun it to fuck and call someone a glake e.g. "Hev ye seen yon glake awa there, playin' in the clarts?"
