Is your car all better now?

(, Thu 3 Feb 2011, 21:51, 1 reply, 15 years ago)
Yeah it's a happy little car again
has been for a while now. I just hope it doesn't cost me anything to damn well MOT next month or I'm fucked.

Have you booked up for next week?

(, Thu 3 Feb 2011, 21:56, Reply)
My train tickets and that?
no, not yet. I found out today I don't need to be there til 10:30, so I can get the first train up and not worry about a hotel. Cutting it fine, but still. I'll sleep better in my own bed and a five hour train journey will give me plenty of time to go through my notes...

Whilst they've said 10.30
I'm sure if you were to call and explain you'll be getting a same-day train they'd be able to see you later (how long are the interviews? A couple of hours?).

The cutting-it-fine-thing is always a worry, as if the train is running late for any reasion, you've a whole world of stress and concern that is completely out of your hands.

Putting your faith in someone else - especially the public transport man - is, in this DogFuckers view, folly.

Ah no, it;s a whole day thing
intro talks and whatnot start at 10:30, interviews are after lunch. I will check though.
(, Thu 3 Feb 2011, 22:14, Reply)
If you can find the necessary to stay overnight, I'd go with that.
You might find that the cost of an off-peak train on one of the discount-rail fare sites off-sets the cost of the hotel when set against the same day travel ticket.
(, Thu 3 Feb 2011, 22:17, Reply)
I've checked, it doesn't
well, it does. But it limits me to catching those two trains and only those two trains and is about £14 cheaper, so no point really.

three bottles of wine that is

(, Thu 3 Feb 2011, 22:23, Reply)
I would be sick
long before I managed to drink three bottles of wine.

Putting the financials to one side.
Will you be more relaxed if you know all you have to do on the day is get up and get to the venue by 10.30, rather than getting up and hoping that the train in on time?
(, Thu 3 Feb 2011, 22:26, Reply)
Not really
I won't sleep well but I will sleep better in my own bed. I'll speak to the staff and see what they think would be best. I just really can't afford to spunk an extra £50 on a hotel even if I will get it back in a months time.
(, Thu 3 Feb 2011, 22:29, Reply)
I understand that.
But if you can remove the stress of possibly putting your faith in the rail-network, you remove a potential problem, that's all I'm saying. But as you say, fifty quid is fifty quid.

That's 10 bottles of wine
