Driving around Europe in my (late) teens
we got to Italy and realised that the roads (and traffic) are like London on a Friday at about 5pm, and gave up, went North and back into France.
It was then that it dawned on me that I had German Deutchmark, Guilders, Lire and Swiss Francs....but no French Francs left as we'd spunked them up the wall in Monaco before crossing the border.
Of course, there were no Bureaux de change or banks open until probably the Tuesday, we were supposed to be in Holland by Wednesday, catching our boat to Dover on Thursday.
With nowhere to stay and no (spendable) money, plus the fact that the battery was long dead in the car and we'd been push-starting it when we'd needed it, we were stuffed.
...that is until an English gent in his 30's came over and offered to help.
Turned out that his GF was the boss of my GF (with whom I was travelling). They bought us a car battery, fed and watered us, and lent us money until we got back to the UK.
If it wasn't for those bastards, I'd still be there sunning it up!
