I may regret saying this in the future, but I haven't found having a child to be that expensive so far.
Private education on the other hand (if that is what we decided to do) would alter this considerably.

The only major expense has been nursery fees
nearly a grand a month. It would be cheaper for one of us to quit work and claim some tasty benefits but neither of us want to fuck our career in the refuse collection and fast food industries.

We are lucky enough as we don't have a mortgage my wife hasn't / isn't going back to work, so we don't have that cost.
