I got really in to my dads old collection of Sci-fi as a youngun,
There was a book that really stood out called The moon is a Harsh mistress, by Robert Heinlein. About moon revolution. I remember it being the first sort of fantasy/scifi that I'd read that was deeper than just lasers and fight scenes. That and a book about an alternate history of the world of ww2 had gone the other way that I can't remember the title of.

this is because sci fi is for kids, the morbidly obese, autists and IT workers.
I realise there is a large overlap in the latter three groupings.
