I think the problem is exacerbated by his profileWinning 7 consecutive Tours de France is a strong contender for the single greatest achievement in the history of all sport, especially after getting diagnosed with brain, lung and testicular cancer. Finding out that he cheated throughout is a real kick in the swingers for everyone who considered him an inspiration. Plus he repeatedly denied doping. Doesn't matter if everyone else was doing it too.
