Soz to reply to my own thread and that, but are the Asterix and Tintin books 'graphic novels'?

Totally, it's all a massive allegory.

It was a rhetorical question.
Of course they are, it's like that old joke about the difference between erotica and pornography being the social class of the person reading/ viewing it.

Larpy, leather trenchcoat, Iron Maiden devotee, 'graph nov' fans down the 'Workshop would never admit it, but yeah, Tintin and Asterix are deffo in the same boat.

I used to love those when I was a kid.

See now, personally, I'm all for calling a comic a fucking comic.
Regardless of whether it's 'Maus' or The Beano.
(, Thu 7 Mar 2013, 22:49, Reply)
I agree AB.
Comics is comics. I can just about stomach the term 'comic book', but novels they aren't. They can't do structure like novels do, or narrative complexity, or anything even approaching what even a bog standard novelist can do with prose.

At the risk of sounding wanly, they're two different mediums. There's totally some stuff you can't do in books you can in comics.
And with big-titted women in spandex as well.
(, Thu 7 Mar 2013, 22:53, Reply)
Well of course.
Hence calling comics comics, and novels novels.
(, Thu 7 Mar 2013, 22:54, Reply)
he's right you know, I tried colouring in a novel once and got fucking nowhere

Are you really sorry to reply to your own thead?
Or are you just a really, really, really needy prick, that just couldn’t live with the idea that his thread had no replies?
I'm not judging just asking

Nah, I did the Q as a tribute to AB, then a few minutes later had the Asterix/ Tintin thought.
You know, as people do, things occur to them later on.
(, Thu 7 Mar 2013, 22:49, Reply)
So you aint a needy prick then?

(, Thu 7 Mar 2013, 22:49, Reply)
Not needy enough that I run around every single thread, tugging on people's sleeves and sucking up to the big boys, no.

(, Thu 7 Mar 2013, 22:50, Reply)
Ok got it you're just a PRICK

(, Thu 7 Mar 2013, 22:52, Reply)
I think this is a perverse variant of damning with faint praise.
