I'm tempted to get a MIG and have a go.
It can't be that hard, surely.

Pfft. Good luck with that.

The most difficult part seems to be getting the flow right.
Other than that it's all chop, tack and grind.

I got a MIG when I was 20
I spent about a week failing to weld anything and gave up.

No fucking patience, me.

Can be a handfull

yeah, go for it.
Just don't practice on anything you like, or near anything flammable.

For my first few, I'd try on panels I know I can source replacements for easily.
Because, you know, cack-handed beginner.
(, Fri 22 Mar 2013, 9:51, Reply)
you will definitely put a hole through at least 2 panels.
But it's good fun. Welders are not cheap.
(, Fri 22 Mar 2013, 9:56, Reply)
Yeah, to be fair I could fill the holes up with weld and grind them back
but I'd at the least I'd have a replacement to hand for patch sections.
