It does tend to.
We're a capitalist country. That's what happens. Personally I'd much rather live in a Social Democracy like most of Scandanavia, but most of you cunts don't want that, so we have what we have, what with being a democratic country. But no-one (collectively) has got worse off, standards of life are all improved.

That poverty is more than just absolute poverty
and the social implications of thatcherite policies are not benign because some quality of life indicators have gone up.
I also do thinkt that we are still feeling the effect of her prime ministership, but I wouldn't go as far as to say we're still suffering from it.
