You didn't take the piss out of them as you would end up in casualty. The problem with these steam punks, and all of their ilk, is that they are more likely to cry rather than put a bottle in your face. So for that reason, they are just a big bunch of jessies. Bring back the olden days, when if you saw somebody a bit out of the ordinary, you showed a decent amount of respect.
