On a totally different subject
I managed to telephone myself yesterday.

My phone rang yesterday, but before I got a chance to answer, it rung off. I saw the number on the caller ID, but decided not to phone it back as I guessed it was a wrong number.

Two minutes later though, the bloke who'd called turned up in the lab. He said that when he'd tried to call, the name associated with my number had come up with something else (we have those fancy Cicso VoIP phones, which are actually pretty crap), so he thought he'd got the wrong number. I have two phones on my line, including a conference phone, and the number had come up as that. So I thought I'd check.

My boss is away at the moment, and he's forwarded his phone to mine (we share an office - I could actually just answer his phone!) but I thought I'd dial his number and see what appeared on his display. Now normally, when you call a forwarded number from the line it's been forwarded to, the system is clever enough to realise, and rings the original number. Not our system. My phone rang. I'd called myself.

I didn't answer it though, in case I disappeared into a black hole. I had a similar fear last week with something else, actually.
