Wow!Thanks people! Many of these are now on my Waterstones wishlist!
I have read a lot of Neil Gaiman stuff. I'm with Bob, American Gods is a cracking book. Fragile Things is good too, if you can get hold of it.

EDIT: BK, The Book Thief was one of the best books I've ever read. Bought it on impulse when it came out, and read it in a day. Fantastic.
