oh yer, also check out keepintime
it's legendary soul & funk drummers playing live with Cut Chemist, DJ Babu etc.

But it's not real music though Harters, always remember that 'songs' played on an acoustic guitar are music, while anything involving DJing just isn't music or musicianship.

NEVER FORGET.

Right you are
who came out with that pile of crap?

Captain Placid.
It's clear to me that playing acoustic guitar in a pub in Coventry with his mate Pooflake is head and shoulders above anything that's been done by Cut Chemist, DJ Premier, DJ Babu, DJ Shadow or Geoff Barrow.

Yep! That'd be me

Are you trolling poor old Brittas?

Partly

haha

No, he genuinely thinks that.
It's tragicomic really.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:56, Reply)
Like I said - partly

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:58, Reply)
So you really think that, say, DJ Babu has no talent and that it's just the emperor's new clothes?
See Placid, if you base your entire view of hip hop on the cheap commercial shit you hear on the radio then that's like judging all punk by Good Charlotte or all folk by the standard of Mumford & Sons.

I'll take a listen to DJ Babu & surf through the associated youtube stuff and let you know

That's nothing apparentley Nakers hates Jazz
Trying to explain how varied it was didn't really help him
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:53, Reply)
I think it's just ignorance really. Not necessarily in a bad way.
John Coltrane is tremendous- emotional, technical, badass. Ditto Miles Davis. But if you just think of Acker Bilk when you think of jazz then you'll think it's shit, innit.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:55, Reply)
Agreed

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 9:56, Reply)
Giant Steps is fucking amazing.
The audacity of Coltrane on that track is breathtaking.

He's sampled on loads of stuff.
You into DnB? I was perusing old metalheadz tracks the other night and this Lemon D one came up, it's got a proper G Funk vibe to it. Proper Amen business as well:

(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 10:08, Reply)
nahhh it's DnB so it's not really music
now throw down an Acoustic guitar in a nice Coventry pub and we are talking proper music.
(, Sat 20 Jul 2013, 10:10, Reply)
I wonder if Pooflake is as gifted a musician as he is a writer?
