OK, well it sounds like you're trying to talk yourself out of anything interestingso I'd suggest a diesel 3 series. Bullet-proof, powerful, good on fuel.

If you don't do the mileagedon't bother with the diesel. You'll pay several grand more for, say, a 335D than for a 335 petrol. You'll take decades to save that back in fuel unless you're doing 5 figure mileages a year.
