Your wicker kitten static electricity plant is a good idea, but extracting energy from the charge is quite difficult unless you allow it to break down (a spark). I would suggest it would be better to have a large treadmill with a toy mouse suspended on a piece of string at one end. Then the kittens will spend all day trying to chase it, while never actually reaching it, and the energy from the treadmill could then be used to turn a huge generator.
Mind you, knowing cats, they'd probably get fed up and go to sleep on the treadmill instead.
