Use the kittens to charge up one plate of a parallel plate capacitor. Then current can flow in the external circuit!
Alternatively, you could charge the kittens and then connect them to a metal rod which was then dipped into an ionic fluid. You could extract current as the ions flowed across between the cathode and anode.
