@spakkaThe ionic fluid could just be salty water, and provided the voltages weren't too high, the kittens would be fine, if a bit annoyed.
But in practice, static voltages tend to be quite high - kilovolts - and this would be a problem. They're only virtual kittens though, so it's not an issue!
@DiT - Is this Dark Knight the Batman film everyone's on about then?
