that appears to be a white golf
painted with "burnt umber" watercolour paint.

it has really obvious areas of white paint. Ironically, around the areas that would typically actually rust on a golf that age
how is it done if it's not painted on?

Bearing in mind I read about it over 10 years ago, the paint was stripped, and they soaked the bare metal with saltwater.
