I've heard explanationsthat it is different parts of your brain processing stimuli at slightly different times so it feels like you've been through the same thing twice (simplified)
however, when I get it I'm certain that the previous vision of it has been a long time before, sometimes years...
it's gone now though which is good, and nothing bad has happened
