They're not "stable" in the atomic sense of the word. They're just unreactive.
The "noble" nature of the gases is down to their electron configuration. The instability of this new element is due to its enormous nucleus.
Edit / afterthought: I don't know whether the other noble gases have radioactive isotopes*, but if they did, this would also be due to the make-up of their nuclei.
*The Oscillating Gibbon would probably know. Where is he today?
