I know the feeling altogether too well.I work as a contract employee here. Unfortunately, the way payroll is set up is that they pay once a month- and for contractors, they pay for the previous month. That meant that I went for a month and a half with no pay, after being laid off for a time.
My home equity line of credit is nearly tapped out now.
