The problem come GBwhen a child asks you to spell a word and you don't know how to spell it!
I sit with them and show them how to look it up in a dictionary.
To be honest I would rather a child could construct a good sentence and be able to punctuate that be constrained by spelling.
Spelling is something that you can continue to learn. Basics like capital letters and full stops are something that needs to be second nature.
