@ Grammar Badger - Please don't quote me on itbut I'm pretty positive that they have to give you a certain amount of written notice to raise your rent like that. All depends whether you have a written contract, deposit etc. I'll try and find out.
On an unrelated side note, since you've let me know about the pound a pint offer still being on, two people have wondered if I'm free to come along!? I had a quiet chuckle to myself about that.
