PoD,As far as I'm aware, they're not trying to simulate anything to do with black holes.
They're trying to detect theoretical particles that are created when you smack two protons together at high energies.
The main one they're looking for is called the "Higgs Boson".
The previous collider-machines they've had aren't powerful enough to do this.
